The Detroit-Windsor Truck Ferry is used primarily for the crossing of trucks carrying hazardous materials across the Detroit River between Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Detroit, Michigan, USA. Trucks with hazardous materials are not allowed to cross between the two cities using the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, and therefore must travel on the ferry. Alternatively it can be used to avoid the congestion delays at other border crossings. The ferry is a dumb barge pushed by the tug MV Stormont. It crosses five times each way per day, and the trip takes approximately 20 minutes.
