The Stena Explorer is a HSS 1500 high-speed catamaran ferry that is both owned and operated by the ferry company Stena Line. She was built in 1996 by Aker Finnyards, Rauma for the company where she was placed on the route that links Holyhead with Dún Laoghaire. The HSS 1500 catamarans are the largest high-speed catamaran ferries in the world, but no cabins are available as the Irish Sea crossing is substantially shorter than with a full sized cruiseferry. The Stena Explorer has the ability to accommodate 1,500 passengers and can carry 375 vehicles. She also provides 800 lanemetres. She has two sister ships, the Stena Voyager and the HSS Discovery. Her current port of registry is London, England.
