The Monarch of the Seas

The Monarch of the Seas is a Sovereign class cruise liner that is currently owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. She was bult in 1991 by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in France for the company. Her maiden voyage was on the 11th November 1991. The vessel has been involved in numerous incidents, most notably on the 15th December 1998, where she was grounded off St Maarten. Whilst evacuating a sick passenger, the vessel struck a reef, and the ship began to sink at the bow. Fortunately, the ship was run aground on purpose to prevent the ship from sinking further. There were no fatalities, however a small oil spill as caused and the ship had to be repaired. Features onboard the Monarch of the Seas include a rock climbing wall, a spa, a children's area and two swimming pools. The ship also became the first cruise liner to be captained by a woman. The Monarch of the Seas has two sister ships, the Majesty of the Seas and the Sovereign of the Seas. Her current port of registry is Nassau, the Bahamas
